- Guṇavarman, tr. [lang id =1028]功德鐙, a prince of Kubhā (Cashmere), who refused the throne, wandered alone, reached China, tr. ten works, two of which were lost by A. D. 730. Born in 367, he died in Nanjing in A. D. 431. He taught that truth is within, not without, and that the truth ((sa) dharma) is of oneself, not of another. The centre of his work is placed in [lang id =1028]揚州 Yangzhou. It is said that he started the order of nuns in China, v. [lang id =1028]翻譯名義 <Fan-yi-ming-yi>.
